creta is a new trio of artists coming from very different backgrounds: roberto zanisi is a finger picking guitar player and a virtuoso on strings of all kinds, including �exotic� instruments like the turkish cümbüs, the greek bouzouki or the albanian cifteli. since 2003 he has been active in many contexts: he worked with giovanni venosta producing sound tracks for silvio soldini�s movies, took part as soloist musician in steward copeland s tour �la notte della taranta (night of tarantula)�, played with the american musician amy denio and performed with sainkho namtchylak. luciano lamanna�s main characteristics are experimentation, analog synths, vinyl and a big love for techno. in 2015, the resident dj at ex dogana, roma and member of the italian artist collective lswhr launched the modular synthesizer project balance (with davide ricci), and in 2017 he released the album �divus� with zu member luca t. mai, to name a few of lamanna�s many releases on labels like earache, boring machines, scuderia et.al. and, last but not least, there is massimo pupillo, highly acclaimed bass maniac with zu, laniakea and in countless other constellations (a.o. peter and caspar brÖtzmann, fm einheit, chris corsano). as creta, they create outlandish sonic pieces that blend sci-fi ambient atmospheres with dark bass pulses and bucolic-mediterranean string instruments � an unique and yet coherent mix of elements that adds consequently to the oeuvres of the three artists!

calendar crowd was the duo of alan heaton and terence tiernan who met in their hometown of widnes, cheshire as schoolboys and played together in various bands in the �70s. in the �80s they formed a 6-piece band called room for humans and recorded one single�telephone telephone / girlfriend�. when the band split and alan and terence continued as calendar crowd in a more experimental direction. their influences were wide reaching: kraftwerk, neu, cabaret voltaire, eno, pil, and joy division.

rezz s involvement in the toronto scene helped grow her gritty style. events like bassmentality and older shows at the legendary guverment helped shape not only rezz, but an era of electronic music producers who became inspired from early dj college tours. mass manipulation is a commentary on how easily our minds can become manipulated by the things we consume in society. we consume heavily through the media, which, in turn, tries to curate our thoughts and dictate how we as humans are supposed to live and behave. this album plays off this idea and invites people to become hypnotized, allowing their brains to be manipulated by my music in the hope they might see things through a new perspective (perhaps an outer world viewpoint). one where everyone is free from the unrealistic expectations planet earth has drawn for them. a world of acceptance and hypnosis.

all source material recorded in gran paradiso, july 2015 engineered at odd phasing and echoes, amsterdam nl photography bjnilsen bjnilsen is a composer and sound artist based in amsterdam. his work primarily focuses on the sounds of nature and how they affect humans. recent work has explored the urban acoustic realm and industrial geography in the arctic region of norway and russia. his original scores and soundtracks have featured in theatre, dance performances and film. celebrating 27 years as a recording artist massif trophies is the first solo release for editions mego. in 2015 he set off on a month long hiking trip in gran paradiso to explore the acoustic environments in the alpine landscape. drawn to the monotonous and physical effort that mountains and high altitudes contributes, this became one of the main inspirations for the album, reflecting upon the perception of the landscape during several hours of physical difficulty, let alone rapid weather changes, horizontal thunderstorms and rock avalanches. it is also about the scope of details and perception of the path and the myth of the mountain as the accursed or sacred place. the five pieces contains narratives based on experiences and recordings from the trip.

let s face it, summer in new york city is sweltering. even with all the windows open and fans on high, it is hard to find refuge in alliance upholstery s chinatown offices. today s sweat though, is due to the -dancer on the shore- ep, the latest release by the brooklyn based band, lemonade (cascine/true panther sounds). -dancer- is a subdued summertime collage of steel drums, buoyant electronic pads and windswept vocals. joined by dee dee from dum dum girls, it is a celebration of the space where humans and nature exist in harmony. originally released digitally as a single on cascine in 2015, the band created a dj friendly extended mix for this release. if you have been to the -air a dancer- party over the last few seasons, you have likely already heard it (sometimes twice in one night!).

quazarz came to the earth from somewhere else, a musical ambassador from his place to ours. somehow, through fire or through fury, the palaceer of shabazz palaces caught wind of the tale, and it is through his prism that we hear the story. the beach was there, and atlaantiis, and chemical alterations and cell memories and andre norton, richard k. morgan, and always octavia butler. there were killings and there were votes, and brutality in both. there was sound and there were other worlds, and there was a vastness so participation sometimes came only at the edges. and the palaceer coasted down with the alien notion, like quazarz, and so became. on quazarz when they look at this place they see the inhabitants, the humans, but they don�t assess as we do. and so quazarz was sent to meet a cat with vibration, a creative and courageous, caring, compassionate dude that stood out. the dude was a drug dealer, but that was neither here nor there, until his dealings squashed the rendezvous, leaving our alien alone to figure out what this place is really all about. the vinyl release includes a download code.
